This course will serve as an introduction to the process of managing and working effectively with people. The primary objective of this course is to provide students with an overview of the basic principles involved in effective management practices, including general and specific elements of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Overview of marketing and the interrelationships between marketing and other business disciplines. Topics include the management of the product, communication, price, and distribution variables as well as introduction to buyer behavior and marketing research. This course introduces the student to the major business disciplines, basic business communications, and the University environment.
The Bachelor of Business Administration degree in General Business Administration is designed to provide students with a broad knowledge in a variety of core business subjects. A general business degree is an excellent choice for students who know they want to work in business but aren't sure what professional position they want to pursue after graduation. The On-Campus Track provides a specific and flexible business educational experience. All Herberger Business School majors complete core classes in accounting, economics, mathematics, marketing, communications, technology, law, ethics and financial principles. The student's chosen transfer institution determines the mathematics courses to complete in order to be a successful transfer candidate. Students completing MATH 162 and MATH 171 will be best prepared to transfer to baccalaureate programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business .

Positions available to graduates with a General Business major are those that require a broad, overarching understanding of the business function, rather than a specialized knowledge within a particular business sub-discipline. Since the general business degree offers students a broad introduction to business, students often use this degree as a precursor to pursuing a specialized master’s program. Through the Drexel Co-op program, general business majors alternate six months of classroom learning with six months of full-time professional experience through Drexel-approved employers. With plans of study that allow for up to three co-ops, students can gain as much as 18 months of practical, hands-on experience in the workplace, applying what they’ve learned in real-world settings long before graduation.
